TIME MAGAZINE plays a huge influence in my life. As a matter of fact, this is the only magazine that I managed to have a yearly subscription from my own savings throughout my entire stay in Manila because it helped me get updated of whats happening around the world. Not only does it give me reliable information that is very helpful to being a socially aware individual but also because of their featured pictures. I always get inspiration from the subject and the story behind every picture that they put in every issue.
And every December, TIME MAGAZINE never fails to highlight the shakers and movers of the world through their PERSON OF THE YEAR feature every DECEMBER. It is year-ender celebration in the magazine featuring the people who has been an inspiration to a lot of people around the world. And this has totally inspired me to highlight as well the 15 People who has influenced and inspired me this 2011. It is my way of thanking them for a wonderful year that was and for constantly reminding me that it never fails to do good in our society.
After days of thinking on who will land on my PEOPLE OF THE YEAR 2011 list, finally I have come up with 15 Wonderful People who have made my 2011 a fruitful one.
1. VELLA CHI AND TONY CHI
For three consecutive years, they have always been the top of my list for the obvious reason that they have been constantly been there for me ALL YEAR Round and for all the years of my existence-supporting, guiding, and loving me UNCONDITIONALLY. Who does that other than your parents right? (BIG SMILE)
2. TORENSMA FAMILY
I can honestly say that the TORENSMA family has been a major factor for making my EUROPEAN Experience a memorable one. I stayed in there house for almost a month and they allowed me to be a Dutch-Filipino for a month by letting me practice Dutch Culture through actions and thoughts. I am forever thankful for the love and care of my BIRD Family.
3. GONZALEZ FAMILY
Last October, the GONZALEZ family hosted me in Zapopan, MEXICO and I love the way how they treated me and exposed me to the reality of people who have cerebral palsy. This family has an organization called CIRIAC for people who have cerebral palsy and they are one of the first organizers in ZAPOPAN to establish an organization for these people. This family is very inspiring because no matter how much challenges they face every single day, they always manage to smile at the end of the day and goes to work the next day full of hope and optimism. I can honestly say that the GONZALEZ family is one of the coolest family I ever stayed with. Not to mention that they have a dog named HAVANA ( Oh the Mexican and Cuban Culture is very much present in their house- I LOVE IT)
4. TYRONE QUICOY
Tyrone has been a very supportive and loving boyfriend to me all these years that we have been together. You know, Long Distance Relationship scares a lot of people but in our case, we have grown to manage this kind of relationship happily and successfully.
5. KHASMIR AND KHALIL
These two individuals has been my number #1 and #2 cheerleaders of my life. Everytime I needed somebody to talk to about life, relationship,etc, they are the first to know and the rest follows because they are the best and the worst critics of my life. Who does that again other than your BROTHERS right?:)
6. MY INTERNS: Kathleen Eastman, Sydnee Gould, and Michelle Aguirre
Sydnee, Kathleen, and Michelle were my interns for 2011. It was equally challenging and fun both at the same time to teach and train these people to do what you are working on, on an everyday basis. But you know what? being a mentor/teacher to these people has been SO MUCH FUN and when I say FUN, it really is FUN. To my interns , I LOVE YOU All and may you always remember that I will always be here for you guys:)
7. ARMANDO GONZALEZ
ARMANDO is the best boss one could ever wished to have and I am so HAPPY that he is one of my bosses in this job. He is one of the reasons on why I LOVE my job so much because he trust his people’s instincts, decisions, and strategies and I love the way how he is always AVAILABLE whenever we needed him. Armando, Thank you for inspiring me to work hard and to be fashion forward AT.ALL. TIMES.
8. KATRIEN PAIROUX
KATRIEN, a very close friend and my MOM from Mexico/Belgium. She is an amazing person with a big heart to everyone. She is actually the first person that I ever worked with and because of her work ethics, I am so much inspired to work harder and be a better person.
9. TEAM ITIM
TEAM ITIM- not everyone in this group is actually MAIITIM (dark) but most of us are thats why in a democratic country like the Philippines, THE MAJORITY WINS ALL THE TIME and that is why we are called the TEAM ITIM. Everytime we see each other, we always have so much fun specially if we talk about current events. Everyone has his or her own opinion about something but at the end of our day, we respect each other and that’s the good thing about this group, we respect and love each other (aminin nyo, tama dba?).
10.KELLY BERRY
THE KELLY BERRY-Kelly is one person who made my 2011 a fabulous and equally fashionable one. Everytime she goes to work, she is effortlessly FASHIONABLE. I had an amazing time working with this woman because her style and thoughts works very well with mine.
11. EDUARDO RAMIREZ
One of the ORIGINAL MELANDI- Eduardo. Oh He is one person whom you would love to meet. Other than the fact that HE IS VERY POPULAR at Tec de Monterrey, he is also one of those people whom I consider a VERY GOOD Friend. No matter how far we are from each other right now, we never fail to say hi and hello once in a while. I am tremendously happy with your current endeavor Melands. Best wishes!!
12. HUMBERTO HERNANDEZ
Ultimately MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER. Humberto-the funniest/craziest/ most hardworking PR that I have ever worked with. We are the ultimate PARTNERS in CRIME for he was with me the whole time that I was learning the steps of becoming a full pledged MANAGER. Oh , I am just so lucky to have this guy for 2011 for he has made my job EASIER and MORE EXCITING. Ale! Ale! Ale!!!
13. MARK WHITAKER
MARK WHITAKER a.k.a MALIBU/ EJJ/ ULTIMATE MELANDS for all seasons.
He is one person that I have worked with the most number of times in this organization and I can honestly say that I work well with Mark. And not the mention, the person that I have worked with in the most difficult countries/cities EVER. Come to think of it, rice fields, small town, etc. -factors that one could easily frustrates a lot of people but Mark and I would always have fun in these situations and it has turned out to be a good one because Mark is now one of my good friends in this WHOLE WIDE WORLD.
14. DAVIS FAMILY
If there is an amazing family who has inspired me to be more ACTIVE and serious about my chosen sport, MEET THE DAVIS’ family. Everyone in this family is so Active and serious with running and every other day, they train seriously like 8 miles of run (okay, I can only do meters,not MILES). They have seen me grow and supported me like their real daughter when I faced difficult times of my life.Thanks to the DAVIS family
15.LINDA CHEN
No matter how difficult our jobs tend to become, LINDA CHEN never fails to make the people around her SMILE and LAUGH. Oh that is a hard one but she does it effortlessly. She is a very hard working TAIWANESE who is proud of her culture, her country and loves her friends very MUCH.
This is my way of saying THANK YOU SO MUCH to these people for the year that was. Wishing you a HAPPY 2012
